New initiatives, mapping a better grid

GridJune 19, 2013. Last week President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum that will hopefully speed up the modernization of the nation’s electric grid. The hope is to make electricity more reliable, save consumers money on their energy bills, and support homegrown American clean energy jobs and industries by making renewable energy easier to access across the country.

UCS report: Renewable Portfolio Standards provide economic benefits at ‘little or no’ cost

Trailblazing the renewable energy frontier, in 1983 Iowa became the first state to implement a renewable portfolio standard.  Though modest – the RPS only required MidAmerican and Alliant Energy to procure 105 megawatts of renewable generation capacity – the policy positioned Iowa to become a renewable energy leader.

National Harbor Hosts High School EV Competion on June 8th

Ten single-passenger electric vehicles built by high school students from Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC, will compete at the inaugural Washington DC Electric Vehicle Grand Prix at National Harbor on Saturday, June 8th from 8:30 to 4:00 PM.

The PEPCO sponsored event, believed to be the first of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region, is organized by Global EEE (Education, Energy and Environment) in partnership with the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington, DC (EVA/DC), the Baltimore-Washington EV Initiative (BEVI), and NuGen Mobility. Other co-sponsors include charging station provider SemaConnect, Spice 6 Indian Cuisine, Mom’s Organic Market, Autobahn Indoor Speedway and Clean Currents.

PLUG IN AMERICA MARKS SALE OF 100,000 PLUG-IN VEHICLES

In a first for American transportation, the U.S. plug-in car market will pass a significant milestone this month: the 100,000th plug-in vehicle sold since the introduction of the latest generation of highway-capable plug-in vehicles just over two years ago. Plug In America, the leading voice for consumer adoption of plug-in vehicles, is commemorating the historic moment with an award contest and by launching a counter on its website that tracks EV sales. The counter is updated using sales data from the most recent published reports.
